| Yesterday we (mom dad, jonathan, myself & robin) went to a republican rally in sugarland, tx...where President Bush spoke! It was so amazing! As I sat down to write I see that my dear friend Miss Teena (her husband was in charge of putting on the event) had already written a great little write-up about the evening. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing it....
The event was WONDERFUL!!! There were about 6,000 people there. We (my son Joel, another staff member, a friend of Joel's, my daughter and her friend) made our way to the seats behind where the Pres. would be speaking. It was awesome looking out into the crowd and seeing all those people out there. There were American, and Texas flags waving from the smallest child to the adults. Matt Yoakum, the ESPN NASCAR commentator was the emcee of the program and he did a great job getting the crowd more hyped up than they already were waiting on the Pres. to arrive. Around 4:50 the first helicopter arrived and landed, then the second one came in. The next one landed and the Pres. Press got out and ran to the ramp where the Pres. would walk up to the stage. Then, the President's copter was hovering over the landing spot. As I stood and watched that copter hover, my eyes welled up with tears and I began to cry because I knew inside that copter was our President and I was witnessing a moment in history that I would probably never get to see again. As it slowly landed on the tarmac I cried even more. Once landed 2 Marines stood and waited for the signal to open the doors. When the doors were opened, he stepped out and was saluted by the 2 Marines manning his doors. Once outside the song, "God Bless Texas" started playing and the President stepped out and waved to the crowd. The place went nuts. Flags waving and signs were being raised all over the building. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and U.S. House Candidate Shelley Sekula Gibbs (whom he was there for) escorted the President up the ramp to the podium. The President stood and waved to the crowd as they screamed and yelled for him. He spoke for about 35 minutes and as he was leaving as he was walking down the ramp there was a young Marine standing right beside us and the President looked at this young man and saluted him. What and awesome sight! Then he stepped off the ramp and went to the crowd to greet his supporters and shake their hands. People were so extatic that they actually got to shake his hand. He then made his way back to his copter, and the fireworks started, and he stepped into the doorway and once again waved to the crowd, He then saluted the 2 Marines manning his copter and once inside the Marines closed and secured the doors. The copter slowly started it's departure and he was off. His copter left first, and as each one came by us they would wave to the crowd. I can just tell you all, it was the most incredible thing to get the priviledge to witness. I told hubby last night after we got home that we may not agree with all the decisions the President makes, but he is a great President. He stands firm in his beliefs and convictions and is not ashamed of his faith. His job is not an easy one and he makes the decisions that he thinks is best for this country. The military people who were there yesterday agreed with the President that he should not bring the troops home. That we should not tuck tail and run because if we did we would regret it. I wish you all could have been there to share this experience with us. I did not get to get close to him because of where I was sitting, but that is ok. When he was Gov. of our great state I got the priviledge of going to the Gov.'s mansion and having breakfast with him. There were other people there as well, but, it was a very small crowd and we actually got some one on one with him.
I am glad to be home again and am glad that I got to make a memory of being there and watching him arrive on his copter. It was a very special moment. After the event our Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas got a call from the White House letting her know that of ALL the events the President has done this year, that this was the BEST one he has done. They also said that this was the first event that he had done where there were NO protesters in the crowd. We were very careful who we gave volunteer passes to and if their name was not on the volunteer list they did not get a pass. There were protesters outside the airport but none inside the event. We actually held the event inside one of the airpot hangers so in order to get in you had to have a ticket before you could get in through the metal detectors. You had to show your ticket to the parking attendants or they would not let you park you car. They would make you turn around and leave if you were ticketless. So we had pretty tight security other than the Secret Service, and our security was volunteers.
I hope you all had a great week last week and had a good weekend. I can't believe tomorrow is November already and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. May the Lord bless each of you in a special way this week.
Blessings,
Teena |
